Score Media and Gaming Inc. is a publicly traded sports betting and media company that was established in 2012 by John Levy. The company has been acquired by Pennsylvania-based Penn National Gaming, a casino and racetrack operator as well as an omnichannel provider of retail and online gambling, live racing, and sports betting entertainment. It also holds a significant share in Barstool Sports.

August saw the initial announcement of the acquisition. The Waterfront Innovation Centre’s 80,000 square foot space was leased by theScore to open a new office in the heart of Toronto.

Happenings After the Acquisition

As a result of the transaction, theScore will continue to be run independently, with Levy and his son Benjie Levy serving as its president and COO. The merger will provide the Score access to resources right away, in Levy’s words,

to better execute the business plan of the merged firms and deliver stronger integrated product offerings to our consumers.

Meanwhile, Penn National claims that with the acquisition, will also be able to better manage its technological stack, get more control over its product development roadmap, decrease expenses, and improve customer experience.
